Description
A striking male and female Ornithoptera priamus preserved in perfect symmetry, set against hand-embossed black leather. Their vibrant wings, electric green above and creamy yellow below, are cradled in a refinished antique wooden frame with gilded baroque scrollwork. This piece celebrates the lush duality of the Birdwing, both bold and delicate, nestled in a frame as ornate as nature itself.
Ornithoptera Priamus, or the common green birdwing, is a large butterfly, with a wingspan of up to 10 inches, found in Southeast Asia and Australia. The males are known for bright green and black coloring while females are larger and brown, an example of sexual dimorphism, which is common amongst butterflies. Its name comes from Priam, the king of Troy, and the Greek word for “bird wing.”
